The Liberian government encourages the participation of women and youth in housing projects not only as beneficiaries, but also as financiers and developers, Fatima Bintu Sirleaf, Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs at Liberia’s Ministry of Local Government, said during the ministerial roundtable titled “From Political Commitment to Implementation Readiness” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA-Economics reports.

According to her, the country’s housing policy is linked to human capital development, employment, entrepreneurship and financial inclusion.

F.B. Sirleaf noted that women are encouraged not only as users of housing projects, but also as financiers and developers. This approach serves to strengthen gender equality and increase women’s participation in economic activities.

The deputy minister stated that entrepreneurship and investment programs created for young people support the active participation of architects, engineers and entrepreneurs in the housing sector.

According to her, the Youth Entrepreneurship and Investment Bank, launched in July 2025 with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), provides young people with financing, seed capital, credit guarantees and business training.

F.B. Sirleaf emphasized that housing is not only a place to live, but also an important factor serving to help people realize their potential, increase economic activity and support the development of local communities.
