Türkiye is carrying out the construction of nearly 500,000 residential and non-residential facilities in regions affected by the February 2023 earthquakes, Adil Karaismailoğlu, Chair of the Committee on Public Works, Urban Planning, Transportation, and Tourism of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, said during the roundtable titled “Parliamentarians: Translating Urban Commitments into National Action – The Parliamentary Path to Housing for All” held within the framework of WUF13, APA-Economics reports.
Adil Karaismailoğlu noted that Türkiye approaches housing policy on the basis of the principles of the social state, planned urbanization, disaster-resilient construction and a people-centered development approach.
He stated that the social housing model implemented through Türkiye’s Housing Development Administration allows for the creation of complete residential neighborhoods together with schools, healthcare institutions, parks, places of worship, pedestrian roads and other social facilities.
The committee chairman stressed that social housing is offered to citizens with long-term and low-interest payment opportunities.
According to Karaismailoğlu, more than 53,000 people lost their lives in the February 6, 2023 earthquakes. Large-scale reconstruction work is currently continuing in the 11 affected provinces together with parks, roads, markets, historical buildings and other infrastructure facilities.
