Azerbaijan has developed a model that can serve as an example for post-conflict countries based on the large-scale reconstruction works being carried out in Karabakh and East Zangazur, Gulshan Rzayeva, Deputy Head of the Office of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, said during the session titled “Climate Action Contributing to Peace Through Urban Solutions in Fragile and Conflict-Affected Areas” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, Azerbaijan considers the urbanization agenda together with the climate agenda. “Urbanization affects the climate, and climate change affects cities. Therefore, these two directions are closely interconnected,” Gulshan Rzayeva noted.
She stated that the restoration projects being implemented in Karabakh and East Zangazur aim not only to rebuild cities and villages, but also to restore communities and people’s lives. According to the committee official, these projects are based on the principles of human-centered urban planning, accessibility, sustainable infrastructure, and resilience to climate change.
“We believe that the experience accumulated by Azerbaijan can serve as a practical model for other countries emerging from conflict and undergoing reconstruction,” she emphasized.
Gulshan Rzayeva added that the initiative presented by Azerbaijan aims to support such countries in financing urban development, attracting investment, and building sustainable settlements.
