The Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub initiative put forward by Azerbaijan within the framework of COP29 aims to expand access to financial resources for post-conflict and climate-vulnerable countries, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Elshad Iskandarov said at the session titled “Climate action contributing to peace through urban solutions in vulnerable and conflict-affected areas” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to “APA-Economics” from the session titled “Climate action contributing to peace through urban solutions in vulnerable and conflict-affected areas” held within the framework of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Elshad Iskandarov said this.
According to him, climate change, urbanization and post-conflict recovery processes are closely interconnected and create additional challenges especially for vulnerable countries.
Elshad Iskandarov noted that the Baku Climate and Peace Action Hub established during COP29 aims to facilitate these countries’ access to climate finance, promote sustainable urban development and support projects contributing to peace.
According to him, the initiative has already gained the support of several countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Egypt, Uganda and the United Arab Emirates, as well as more than 300 organizations.
The ambassador added that memorandums of understanding have been signed with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Guinea-Bissau and The Gambia for the practical implementation of the initiative.
