Euronews has prepared a report on the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in Azerbaijan next month, APA reports.

The report highlights that more than one billion people worldwide live in inadequate areas and that WUF13 serves as an important platform for addressing this issue.

It notes that WUF13 is a key platform for countries to exchange experiences and discuss ideas in the field of urban development.

“Azerbaijan, as the host country, will share its experiences in the field of settlement, particularly regarding reconstruction issues in the post-conflict period,” the report states.

It was also emphasized that the settlement sector in Azerbaijan is closely linked with reconstruction.

In an interview with Euronews, Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts, said that the goal is not only to build houses but also to create a sense of belonging for the population.

“The sense of belonging connects people to life and to the community,” he noted.

Emin Huseynov also spoke about the importance of creating jobs, ensuring social life, and economic well-being alongside housing construction in the resettlement process.

The report also includes the views of citizens returning to the liberated territories.

They stated that upon their first arrival in the liberated areas, they saw not only houses but also access to markets, public catering facilities, and other vital infrastructure.

Residents noted that new trees have been planted in place of destroyed greenery, new parks have been established, and landscaping work has been carried out.

The report also highlights various aspects of the successful implementation of Azerbaijan’s Great Return program.

Aydin Karimov, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, said that currently 1,400 people — 377 families — live in Shusha.

The report emphasizes that housing provision remains a global issue and that discussions at WUF13 will focus on inclusive policies, accessibility, and sustainable urban development.
