“We are trying to bring European experience and best practices in the field of demining to the region," Marijana Kujundzic, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan, said at the event titled “Post-Conflict Urban Reconstruction: The Crucial Role of Humanitarian Demining Activities” held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
She noted that negotiations are underway on a new project with the International Trust Fund for Demining and Mine Victims Assistance located in Slovenia: “The project is aimed at strengthening the institutional and operational capabilities of ANAMA. This includes the training of mine detection dogs, provision of technical equipment, assistance to mine victims, and the supply of special ambulances. The project will be signed and implemented in the near future. This commitment was undertaken during Commissioner Marta Kos’s visit to Karabakh in September last year. The need for support is still very great. The EU, as a global donor and Team Europe, is ready to continue its support. We have mobilized 10 million euros for demining equipment, as well as for the establishment of the ‘International Centre of Excellence for Mine Action’. Team Europe’s total support has already reached 22 million euros. This center could become a platform for knowledge sharing for the region.”
