Britain is concerned about France's possible exit from the "coalition of the willing" if National Rally leader Marine Le Pen or Jean-Luc Mélenchon, founder of the left-wing France Insubordinate party, wins the 2027 presidential election, APA reports citing Daily Telegraph.

As the publication noted, Le Pen and Mélenchon do not support French President Emmanuel Macron's militaristic and anti-Russian policies, causing concern in London. According to The Daily Telegraph, British authorities admit that the new French president could call into question the future of the "coalition of the willing" and intelligence sharing between the countries.

The newspaper emphasized that, in light of this, discussions have begun in diplomatic circles in NATO member countries about who could replace France as one of the leading powers sponsoring Ukraine. Germany is considered the most obvious option, but the complex domestic political situation may prevent German Chancellor Friedrich Merz from drawing Berlin deeper into the conflict in Ukraine.
