Baku’s urban development plan until 2040 will respond to new realities and climate change, Riyad Gasimov, head of the Main Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Baku under the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, said during an event dedicated to Baku’s Master Plan held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He stated that under the leadership of the President, urban planning and architecture are among the most important tasks for Azerbaijan: “According to the UN, 60% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050. Therefore, modern urban planning must be detailed, people-oriented, and precise. A long-term Master Plan for Baku has already been formed. Baku’s Master Plan has been considered on a broad scale. The main goal here is to improve quality of life. The city’s safety and accessibility for people have been taken as a basis.”
He noted that attention has been paid in the Master Plan to reducing environmental impacts: “We are working to achieve global climate goals. In this regard, we are conducting detailed discussions within the UN system.”
