“On behalf of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the Cambodian delegation expresses its deep gratitude to Azerbaijan and the United Nations for jointly organizing the 13th session of the World Urban Forum in Baku," Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Say Samal said during the Leaders’ Session within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA reports.
He noted that internal conflicts and wars over the past 500 years have made Cambodia a very vulnerable state:
“After gaining independence from French colonialism, Cambodia was a young and dynamic country. However, this ‘Golden Era’ did not last long. During the Vietnam wars in the 1960s and 1970s, Cambodia’s cities were devastated. In the 1980s, Cambodia was a battlefield of the Cold War, and the country was completely destroyed.
Thanks to peace, political stability and sustained economic growth over the past two decades, Cambodia is moving toward becoming a middle-class society. This has opened new opportunities for us to build a new Cambodia.
"The current government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, is seizing the opportunities ahead, and we are building a new Cambodia."
