During the presentation on urban development indicators, the capital city of Baku demonstrated positive results across a number of important indicators, Yekaterina Shapochka, a representative of the global consulting company Boston Consulting Group, said during the discussion titled “Built for Change: How Cities Compete for the Future?” held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA reports.
She stated that the level of urban development was assessed based on the pace of change, economic opportunities, livability, and social indicators:
“Baku achieved a high result in the overall pace of change indicator, placing in the fourth quintile. Presenters assessed this as an indicator of the transformation and development processes taking place in the city.
It was noted that Baku also demonstrated strong performance in terms of livability, ranking close to the highest quintile. This reflects the level of development of the city’s infrastructure and living conditions.
The presentation also drew attention to the income-equality paradox. It was stated that while income levels are higher in US cities, income inequality is also greater. In European cities, meanwhile, incomes are relatively lower, but income distribution is more balanced.”
