“Baku has already changed in many ways. Moving away from Soviet traditions, it is becoming a more modern urban center and continues to improve,” said Fariz Azizov, Advisor on Institutional Development to the Chairman of the Board of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAYDA), during an event dedicated to the Master Plan of Baku held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
He stated that ensuring mobility in Baku has led to changes in many aspects:
“At the same time, we have also faced certain challenges. People are already moving toward suburban areas. Now, based on technological and demographic data, all changes must be taken into account. We are responsible for anticipating the future. Baku’s Master Plan aims to fundamentally transform the infrastructure as a whole. This Master Plan should make people’s lives easier and ensure their comfort. Therefore, AAYDA is trying to change the structure of roads, reduce congestion, and create a more mobile city. A modern city should not be designed only for cars; pedestrians hold special importance in our projects.”
He noted that cities should be designed as friends of people:
“Urban mobility is very important for us. Roads are not just asphalt and cement — they mean a better economy and a better life. As AAYDA, we are also trying to contribute to the ‘Baku Master Plan 2040.’”
