Urban development or urbanization is impossible without reliable energy sources said Rustam Gasimov, Deputy Chairman of Azerenergy OJSC, during the event titled “Digital Management Architecture of Azerbaijan’s Energy System” held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that Azerenergy is responsible for the generation and transmission of electricity: “My colleague participating here is responsible for the distribution sector. Ensuring sustainable development is a very complex and large-scale task. Currently, Azerbaijan’s energy infrastructure is in a fairly comfortable position in terms of generation. However, by 2030 we will face an energy shortage. This requires taking a number of steps starting from now. Azerbaijan’s new digital infrastructure, especially the development of artificial intelligence technologies, requires enormous amounts of energy. The main condition for the development of the artificial intelligence sector is reliable and sustainable energy supply. If the current situation continues, we may face an energy deficit in meeting all demand by 2031. Therefore, we plan to increase traditional energy production through a 525-megawatt gas turbine power plant. Additional energy generation capacity is planned for 2028–2030, and approximately 4,000 megawatts of new thermal energy capacity are envisaged in the 2040 perspective.”
