“We have held discussions with some companies in Azerbaijan regarding solid household waste, but there are still no contracts or agreements yet,” Javidullah Hamed, Director for Sustainable Development at Afghanistan’s National Environmental Protection Agency, said in a statement to APA.
He noted that Afghanistan needs more housing due to floods: “Approximately five million people have returned from neighboring countries, and many people from rural areas have moved to cities. They need schools and infrastructure. This has created pressure on cities, and essential services are under serious strain. Therefore, Afghanistan is currently working on creating and developing infrastructure and building homes for returnees and internally displaced persons. Such a program will create an opportunity for construction companies and the government to take into account all aspects of sustainable development in the planning process.”
He stated that forums and conferences such as WUF13 provide a good opportunity for Afghanistan to make its voice heard, establish ties with the international community, and benefit from the exchange of experience and knowledge: “I also want to raise concerns and challenges before the international community. They should provide assistance and help the people of Afghanistan, because the people of Afghanistan need support and assistance in this field to ensure safe housing.”
