Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. A recreation park has been opened in Ramana production area of former Baku Iodine Plant, cleaned by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of former Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev.
APA reports that Minister of Emergency Situations Kemaleddin Heydarov, management of the Ministry, representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and Sabunchu District Executive Authority attended the opening ceremony.
Minister Heydarov was informed that the area was cleaned from 110,000 cubic meters of radionuclide-containing coal waste, radionuclide-containing fuel, pipes and household wastes. 50 000 cubic meters of fertile land was brought there. All necessary conditions were created in 6.5 hectare park for the citizens. A sports field and special places for children were created in the park.
Heydarov told journalists that the area was cleaned and park was established under the instruction of President Ilham Aliyev: “The representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency inspected the area after it had been cleaned. The area was cleaned in accordance with the specific safety rules. The international experts said that there is no radiation in the area.”
The Minister said that Surakhani and Neftchala production areas are also being cleaned. He said that the works in Neftchala production area would be completed soon and green spaces would be created in both cleaned areas.
Ramana production area of former Baku Iodine Plant was cleaned from radionuclide-containing wastes by Ecoland LLC under the supervision and auspices of the State Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activity of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
