Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh - APA. Film entitled “Combating MDR TB in prisons. Azerbaijan’s practice” has been presented today, APA reports.
Addressing the event, Denise Duran, Head of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation to Azerbaijan, said Azerbaijani Justice Ministry and ICRC acted jointly to control tuberculosis in prisons in 1995-2011.
“The film presented today shows that Azerbaijan is playing a model role in combating multidrug-resistant TB,” she said.
Chief of Justice Ministry’s Main Medical Department Rafael Mehdiyev said the number of inmates with TB dropped by 58 times in 2010 compared to 1995. Death rate has dropped by 10 times in the past 10 years.
Mehdiyev said more than 13 000 inmates had been treated for TB since 1995.
“The number of inmates with TB is reducing. It dropped to a record low in 2013,” he said.
