Baku. Farid Mirzayev – APA. Part of a highway in Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi district is cracked after being hit by landslide, Aziz Garalov, chief of the Geological Planning Expedition of the National Geological Exploration Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, told APA on Thursday.

According to him, the landslide occurred as a consequence of rising water level in a lake near the Chukhuryurd village of Shamakhi resulting from days of rainfall in the area.

Aziz Garalov said the landslide has caused part of the road to crack.

“Another landslide—30 meters in width, 2 meters in depth, and 80 meters in length—occurred in the centre of Shamakhi’s Jabany village. The landslide is in active phase and the site affected is enlarging on a daily basis, causing the walls of houses to crack,” he added.
