According to him, the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography is taking necessary measures to prevent bones from decaying. Agayev said that the situation is very bad at the burial site and decay process is going on.
Agayev noted that the two irrigation canals with the bodies of Azerbaijanis killed during the genocide have remained unchanged: “One of the wells collapsed as a result of the landslide in 2007, but the second well was preserved. At present, the second well is in danger. Earlier, the depth of the well was 4.2 meters and today, its depth dropped to 2.2 meters. This well needs to be preserved. Otherwise we will not be able to prove that the genocide has been committed against Azerbaijanis.”
According to him, though it was announced that the second stage of construction works at the complex would be started in November, this process has not been started yet: “It will not be started, because winter in this region is very severe and unfavorable for construction. Therefore, these processes will be likely started in spring. If serious measures are not taken there, the mass burial site will collapse by spring.”
