Member of Azerbaijani Parliament’s Social Policy Committee Malahat Ibrahimgizi told APA that there is a need for amendments to the legislation in this regard. She said that consent should be given by a donor while living or his/her relatives after death for organ transplantations.
Ibrahimgizi said that laws should be improved to carry out it: “The state of organs should be determined before the transplantation. Currently, there is a practice of organ donation from relatives in some cases. However, organ donation from others is a difficult process. I consider that it is important to adopt a law on living and dead organ donors. No one can be forced in this regard. Organ donation should be carried out voluntarily.”
The MP noted that there is a need to raise awareness in this regard: “The main condition is the consent of citizen or the contest of his or her family if she or he died.”
The committee member added that dead people in Azerbaijan may be organ donors. According to him, we need to make amendment to legislation in this regard and carry out propaganda.
