Baku. Konul Kamilqizi – APA. A woman (Aysel Azimzade, born 1991) gave birth to quintuplets—four boys and one girl—in the Republican Perinatal Center early Thursday morning, unfortunately, all newborns died shortly after, center director Sevinj Mammadova told APA.
Mammadova said it was the woman’s second pregnancy.
The director said the mother had been using a variety of medications to protect her pregnancy and was admitted to the Center with severe bleeding on November 11, when her condition deteriorated.
“The woman is in critical condition. To normalize her liver and kidney, she has been hospitalized,” Mammadova said, adding that a consultation was held at the Center in presence of experts of the Health Ministry and the Baku City Main Healthcare Department, and every effort was made to stabilize the woman’s condition.
“Spontaneous labor began at 07:00 am today. As a result, five babies weighing 200 to 400 grams were born. But, despite all the efforts made, the babies died,” he said. The critical deterioration in the mother’s liver and kidney in the last month caused certain changes in her blood. As a result of all the above, the babies were born prematurely at 24 weeks,” she added.
Mammadova noted that every effort is being made to stabilize the woman’s condition.
