Azerbaijani population reaches 9.77 million

Baku – APA. Azerbaijani population has reached 9,775,700 people with an increase of 70,100 or by 0.7 percent since the beginning of 2016, the State Statistical Committee said in a report on Oct. 17.

The density of the population was 113 people per square kilometer, said the report.

According to the report, urban population is leading in the country with a share of 53.1 percent of the total, while rural population made up 46.9 percent.

The number of female population exceeds male population making up 50.2 percent of the overall population. Some 49.8 percent of Azerbaijan's population are men. It means there are 1,007 women for each 1,000 men.

Generally, 106,500 children were born in the country in January-August. The birth rate was 16.1 per thousand people, while 53.4 percent of newborns were boys, and 46.6 percent girls. Some 1.872 twins and 51 triplets were born in Azerbaijan in this period.

Some 37,800 deaths were registered in Azerbaijan since the beginning of the year. The mortality rate per 1,000 people remained unchanged and made up 5.9 person compared to the same period of last year.
