Azerbaijan Education Ministry: Public legal entity status will open up new opportunities for development of higher education

The reorganization of universities and the conferment of the status of public legal entity, in accordance with the “State Strategy for the development of education in Azerbaijan” approved under the presidential order, will open up new opportunities for the development of higher education in the country.

This decision will further expand the involvement of the people ad employers, who are interested in increasing management quality at universities, in this process and create transparent and efficient management mechanisms, the Education Ministry’s press service told APA.

“It is clear from the experience of developed countries that the process of socialization of educational management is accelerating. The new mechanism will cause to increase of responsibility and accountability at universities. Increasing of the quality of management system at universities by conforming to leading countries’ universities also serves to this goal,” said the press service.

Granting universities the status of public legal entity will lead to improvement of the mechanism of funding education through use of various sources and expansion of the range of paid educational services, according to the ministry’s press service.

“This means a new quality factor for the material and technical base and infrastructure of higher education institutions. Ensuring economic sustainability of higher educational institutions increases their local and international competitiveness, turns them into research and innovation centers. This is one of the main conditions for the successful implementation of the innovation in the socio-economic life of the country,” added the press service.

Upon the recent presidential orders, the Azerbaijan University of Languages, Baku State University and Azerbaijan State Economic University were granted the statuses of public legal entity.
