Twenty-six foreigners were detained in a joint anti-migration operation conducted by Azerbaijan’s State Migration Service and State Security Service on Feb. 12 and 14.
The detainees include 24 citizens of India, one citizen of Pakistan and one citizen of Turkmenistan, the State Migration Service told APA.
According to the State Migration Service, 17 Indians, one Pakistani and one Turkmen citizen were found guilty of violating the rules of staying and living in the territory of Azerbaijan, while another 7 Indians were found not to have acted in keeping with their stated purpose of arrival.
At the same time, a person by the name Mehbub, who is based in India’s Gujarat province, was found to be engaged in sending Indian nationals to Azerbaijan with the help of his coordinator in Azerbaijan, Nirav Dineshkumar Patel.
The above mentioned people are accused of deceiving Indian citizens and appropriating a certain amount of money, by promising to provide them with high-wage jobs in Azerbaijan and to legalize their stay in the country.
Patel placed the Indian citizens in various addresses in Baku’s Yasamal and Nasimi districts, after which deliberately left Azerbaijan for Georgia.
The attempt of the above mentioned people to bring Indian citizens to Azerbaijan as illegal migrants and to organize a negative migration channel was prevented as a result of preventive measures carried out.
