Former NATO Secretary General (2014-2024) Jens Stoltenberg stated that there is no guarantee of the alliance's eternal existence, APA reports.
"No one can guarantee that NATO will exist forever. But I think heads of state and government should now speculate less about future scenarios and focus instead on urgently needed measures," he said in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine.
Stoltenberg believes that European NATO member states should have "started investing more in defense much earlier." "They have started doing so, and we've seen a significant increase in defense spending, including in Germany. But, of course, all of this could have happened faster," the former Secretary General stated.
