Baku – APA. As many as 153 people, including 16 foreigners (citizens of the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Pakistan and Iraq) have been detained in Azerbaijan for illegal hunting since the beginning of 2016, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources told APA.
According to the ministry, 119 shotguns, 415 cartridges, 17 illegally hunted birds were seized from the Azerbaijani citizens detained during raids.
A variety of hunting tools (trap, snare, loop) were seized from 16 foreigners who were detained for attempted poaching in the administrative territories of Beylegan, Imishli, Hajigabul, Bilasuvar, Khizi, Khachmaz and Guba districts and in the Aghgol National Park, added the ministry.
Protocols were drawn up on 144 detainees and they were fined 162,600 manats under the Code of Administrative Offences. Necessary measures have been taken to identify 9 offenders who did not present documents and to bring them to responsibility.
The ministry has sent a request to the State Migration Service for the foreigners to be deported.
The ministry stated that raids are underway in order to prevent the cases of illegal hunting in the country.
