Baku. Konul Kamilgizi – APA. Maternal mortality rate in Baku is higher than other districts of Azerbaijan, Sevinj Mammadova, chairperson of the Health Ministry’s Obstetrical Commission, director of the Republican Perinatal Center, told APA.
“Seriously ill patients are brought to Baku from all the districts of Azerbaijan. Although doctors do everything possible to save them, sometimes the consequences are serious,” she said.
Mammadova noted that the number of maternal deaths is also higher in Central Aran (lowland), Ganja-Gazakh and Lankaran economic districts.
“Maternal mortality cases are annually recorded in the Sabunchu district of Baku, Ganja and Shirvan cities, and Goranboy, Barda and Neftchala districts,” she said.
She stressed that not a single case of maternal death has been recorded in Azerbaijan’s Oghuz and Shabran districts since 2009. Only one case of maternal death has been recorded in Nakhchivan since 2009, added Mammadova.
