The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and the Ministry of Emergency Situations held a working meeting on Thursday.
Issues of cooperation between the ANAS and the ministry were discussed at the meeting, APA reported.
Addressing the meeting, ANAS President Akif Alizade said that he had been waiting for this meeting for a long time.
Alizade hailed the effective activity of the ministry. “We are trying to conduct some reforms in the academy. The academy decided to make innovative contribution to productions. If I’m not mistaken there are two or three technoparks in Baku. However, it’s a rare case that the academy owns an industrial park”, he added.
Alizade noted that some academy members will make presentations at today’s meeting.
Minister of Emergency Situations, Colonel-Geneeral Kemaleddin Heydarov expressed gratitude to the ANAS management for organizing the meeting.
The minister said that one of the components of the policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev is the development of science.
“Since Mr Akif’s election as ANAS president, there have perceptible changes, which please all the consumers and heads of bodies,” he noted.
The minister continued: “Azerbaijani science has a long history. With discovers of our scientists, immense achievements were made in the former Soviet Union, which we were part of. Of other notable discoveries, we should mention academician Yusif Mammadaliyev’s discovery of high octane gasoline. Discoveries made by your scientists in the oil chemistry, agriculture, and other areas and their application have made a great contribution to economy. Upon the order of President Ilham Aliyev, all of us, including the Ministry of Emergency Situations, are determined to make maximum use of the Academy of Sciences’ potential. At the same time, we think of their application in manufacture and services as a scientific approach and a way to enhance efficiency. The development of independent Azerbaijan’s economy and industry largely relies on Azerbaijani science. We invite foreign scientists and specialists from abroad when necessary, which is not efficient economically. If the results of scientific research carried out jointly with ANAS are applied in our own production, it will be beneficial for the improvement of economic, defense, agricultural spheres, as well as civil defense, fire control, change of vegetation cover, soil analysis.”
Later, the director of the ANAS Institute of Genetic Resources, Zeynal Akbarov, spoke about the application of modern technologies in innovative research in Azerbaijan.
Academician Vagif Abbasov and Ph.D. in technology Alibala Alizade also made speeches at the meeting.
