Sabirabad. Alibay Zeynalli – APA. An American raccoon has been trapped in a yard in Garagashli village of Azerbaijan’s Sabirabad district.
Speaking to APA's local bureau, villager Salman Muradov said a few days ago he had laid a trap in his yard to protect poultry from predators.
“A predatory animal, which is not met in Azerbaijan’s lowland district, was captured in the trap. Through the Internet they found out that it is an American striped raccoon,” said the villager.
Raccoons live in temperate and tropical regions of America and in the areas from southern Canada to Argentina. Certain species of raccoons have been brought to Europe by people over the last 50 years.
Veterinarians examined the animal. Salmanov said that after the raccoon’s paw healed, they will hand over the animal to the zoo.
