The first robotic surgery was performed in 2000, Amiraslanov said addressing a conference on the theme “New Technologies in Medicine: Stem Cells and Robotic Surgery” in Baku on Friday, APA reports.
The conference was co-organized by the Azerbaijani Parliament’s Health Committee, the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) and Turkey’s Istinye University.
The academician noted that the invitation to the conference of Turkish specialists will promote the use of stem cells in medicine in Azerbaijan.
It was noted at the conference that stem cells were obtained from two sources, including gums and adult stem cells. Adult stem cells are found in tissues such as bone marrow, muscle, eyes, nerves, skin, and used in the treatment of various diseases, chronic illnesses such as cancer or organ failure, and for the acquisition of healthy cells and tissues to replace faulty and malfunctioned cells.
Parkinson, Alzheimer, spinal disorders, paralysis associated with nerve injuries, diabetes, joint disorders, osteoporosis and rheumatism can be treated with stem cells.
Experiments are being made using stem cells in the treatment of renal disease, cleft palate, cleft lip, cancer, allergies, infectious diseases, as well as eye and skin diseases.
