"This place where we are now used to be a very strategic combat position. Battles took place in this area. This height changed hands multiple times. According to witnesses, during the last battle in January 1993, a group of Azerbaijani servicemen were killed," said Zaur Ismayilov, a member of the working group of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, while speaking about the mass grave discovered in Aghdara, APA reports.
He noted that during the search, the remains of more than 10 Azerbaijani servicemen were found in the mass grave: "Work will continue here, and the area will be searched more extensively. Once the remains are removed, the lower layers will be examined. It is not ruled out that this number may increase."
