“The UN Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, adopted in 2006, must be ratified by the international community,” said Senator of Kenyan Parliament, Professor Tom Odhiambo Ojienda, during his speech at the international conference themed “Uniting efforts and enhancing cooperation for addressing the issue of missing persons,” APA reports.

“There is a human rights charter on the African continent. But it talks about the right of people to live and be protected. There is no specific framework for preventing people from going missing. I believe that the convention adopted by the UN in 2006 regarding missing persons must be ratified by all countries. The international community must have concrete laws related to the investigation of the fate of missing persons and must establish mutual cooperation agreements so that it becomes possible to search for and find these individuals,” the Senator of Kenyan Parliament emphasized.
