Azerbaijan’s experience in international cooperation on missing persons is an example for us, said Ana Birchall, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Romania, during her speech at the international conference themed “Uniting efforts and enhancing cooperation for addressing the issue of missing person,” APA reports.

“Azerbaijan is a reliable international partner. This country strives to overcome all issues with innovation and resilience even in the most difficult times. Baku is a city of dialogue and resilience. The work Azerbaijan has demonstrated in international cooperation on missing persons is an example for us,” Ana Birchall said.

She also touched on the key conditions for improving international cooperation.

“Our problem is that our legal systems and data regarding missing persons are incomplete. International cooperation is important, and there are several key points here. First of all, there must be trust and transparency between countries. The information exchanged between countries should not raise suspicion. Secondly, there must be organized cooperation with a defined legal framework. A legal system should be established for inter-country partnership in this field. Thirdly, there are technological transfers. Sharing technological capabilities in the identification of remains is of exceptional importance. Fourth one is legal harmonization. The families of missing persons must be protected regardless of where they are,” emphasized the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice of Romania.
