According to the official data, in addition to natural increase the population rose due to net migration for the first time in 35 years.
51.7% of the population live in urban and 48.3% in rural areas. Men accounted for 49% and women 51% of the population. The sex ratio was 1 027 women per 1 000 men.
23% of the population are aged 0-14, 70% - 15-64 and 7% - above 65.
The top body said the 14-29 age bracket account for 31.2% of the population. The average age of the population is 32, average life expectancy is 72.4, including 69.7 years for men and 75.1 years for women.
The country registered 152 100 births a year, or 417 babies a day or 17 babies an hour during 2008, of which 53.9% were male and 46.1% female. Also, 1 648 twins and 27 triplets were born during this period.
The most popular name for girls were Fatima, Nermin, Fidan, Zehra and Nuray and the most popular names chosen by parents for boys were Ali, Murad, Mahammad, Huseyn and Nihad.
