152 have â€œpeopleâ€™sâ€ title and 1360 â€œhonoredâ€ title in Azerbaijan

Elbrus Seyfullayev â€“ APA. 152 have â€œpeopleâ€™sâ€ title in Azerbaijan now, chief of pension policy department of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population Vugar Hasanov told APA. Basing on the statistical figures for the end of 2008 Hasanov said the number of persons who received titles increased. He said 132 had â€œpeopleâ€™sâ€ title in 2006. Vugar Hasanov said 1360 people have â€œhonoredâ€ title now. The department chief said according to the statistical figures of 2006, 1138 had â€œhonoredâ€ title in Azerbaijan.

Vugar Hasanov said those who have â€œpeopleâ€™sâ€ title received AZN 50 and those who have â€œhonoredâ€ title received AZN 30.

The ministry official said presidentâ€™s stipend was instituted to assess the labor and improve the well-being of the persons having great contributions to social, political and economic life of Azerbaijan. Hasanov said over 450 people received AZN 1000 monthly allowance.

The department chief said under the decrees of Azerbaijani President 191 National Heroes received AZN 600, the families of 141 martyrs of January 20 received AZN 300 and the families of 13537 martyrs received AZN 100.

By the presidential decree from September 9, 2008, special pensions were instituted for war disabled veterans and 15300 people throughout the country were granted with this pension. First group disabled veterans receive 90 AZN monthly, second group - 70 and third group â€“ 50.

More than 31 thousand people in Azerbaijan were granted with the honorary titles and special pensions, including presidential pensions. There are no other privileges for those people, but they are awarded with the medals for their public, political, military, cultural and other activities. Honorary titled persons have material privileges, but it doesnâ€™t concern the peoples awarded with medals.
The highest award in Azerbaijan is Heydar Aliyev Medal. Few people were awarded with it so far. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, rector of Turkeyâ€™s Bilkent University Ihsan Dogramaci, famous cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich, Ukrainian president Victor Yushchenko and world-known artist Tahir Salahov were awarded with this medal. There are medals of Independence, Glory, Honor, Azerbaijani Flag and Friendship and other medals in Azerbaijan.
