Iranian, Pakistani and Afghan citizens dominate among the applicants for refugee status in Azerbaijan

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov–APA. Azerbaijan State Migration Service (SMS) held press conference on the occasion of December 18, the International Migration Day, APA reports. SMS Chief Arzu Rahimov said the service established in 2007 was registering the foreigners and regulating allowance of permanent or temporary residence and refugee status issues. He said number of legal and illegal foreign migrants in the country would be specified in 2009.
Rahimov said many foreigners arrived in Azerbaijan to find jobs here. 4200 of them were registered at the relevant bodies as workers.
SMS Chief said Iranian, Pakistani and Afghan citizens dominated among those, who applied for refugee status and there are about 100 applications from the citizens of those countries. Rahimov said only one of them replied positively.
