Baku-APA. Danish Refugee Council established presence in Azerbaijan in 1996 and since then has been carrying out an operation with the main focus on economic rehabilitation of internally displaced persons and conflict affected local population.
In 2008 DRC launched an activity aimed at creation of jobs for internally displaced people, residing in the new government funded settlements of Fizuli and Agdam regions. This activity, titled as “SME development” has been implemented in concert with the State Program on Provision of IDPs with Shelter and Employment. The overall objective of SME development is to create jobs for IDPs and to ensure their access to steady income.
SME development by DRC would have not been possible if it had not been for generous support from StatilHydro company which realised the importance of economic rehabilitation activities to the vulnerable IDPs and the necessity of providing them with income generation opportunities.
It is due to StatoilHydro’s funding that DRC managed to create 22 small and medium-size enterprises for IDPs in 2008, provide 94 IDPs with jobs and 376 family members with an additional income.
