Preparations for 90th anniversary of Baku State University start

Baku. Elnur Mammadli â€“ APA. Rector of Baku State University, MP Abel Maharramov has held a press conference today, APA reports. Maharramov gave information about the preparation for the events on the 90th anniversary of Baku State University to be held the following year. Rector said a number of events would be held on that occasion. Speaking about the history of Baku State University Abel Maharramov said the idea of establishing a higher school in Azerbaijan was put forth in 1918 during Azerbaijan Peopleâ€™s Republic and the discussions continued for a year.
â€œFinally on September 1, 1919 the parliament passed a decision to establish Baku State University. The first lecture was delivered at the university on November 15,â€ he said.
Abel Maharramov underlined great achievements of the university within the past 90 years.
â€œ70-80 percent of Baku State University graduates are represented in higher government agencies of Azerbaijan. The students of our university are future ministers and other public servants,â€ he said.

Abel Maharramov said on the occasion of the jubilee 25 holders of bachelorâ€™s degree, 25 holders of masterâ€™s degree, 25 teachers of bachelors and 25 teachers of masters would receive stipends. It is planned to pay AZN 1000 stipend to 50 best students and 50 best teachers.

Abel Maharramov also said that competition would be held for the best article, TV program and film about the university. He noted that the terms of the competition would be announced early in December.
