There are 793 state registered religious communities (765 – Islamic, 28 – non-Islamic) in Azerbaijan, said Aliheydar Zulfugarov, department head at the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations.
He made the remarks on Thursday at a meeting of the State Committee dedicated to the outcome of 2017, APA reports.
The department head said that in 2017 the State Committee received applications in connection with the abolishment of the registration of 22 religious communities.
“The registration of 19 religious communities was revoked. However, the applications of 3 religious communities were rejected because they were not drawn up in accordance with the legislation,” he added.
