Representative of Religious Committee: No confrontation among religious sects in Azerbaijan

Lankaran. Aghaddin Babayev-APA. Seminar “Presidential elections-2008: religious men as electors” was held in Lankaran. APA reports that the event was organized by the State Committee on Work with Religious Associations. Alimardan Aliyev, chief of Lankaran executive power’s department for public organizations and political parties addressed the event. Representative of the State Committee on Work with Religious Associations for southern regions Miryahya Badirov said that 4.683 million citizens had the right to vote and over 30% of them were religious men.
Representative of the State Committee on Work with Religious Associations Jeyhun Mammadov said some political forces used religion before the elections. According to him, there was no confrontation among religious sects in Azerbaijan.
“There is complete stability in this sphere in Azerbaijan, State Committee on Work with Religious Associations regularly observes the activity of religious communities and sects. Decisions are made and executed when necessary,” he said.
