Amendments to be made in law on freedom of faith

Chairwoman of the committee Rabiyyat Aslanova said the law on freedom of faith was adopted in 1992 and a series of amendments were made in this law in the past period. â€œThese amendments required by the time played an important role in the regulation of relations between the state and religionâ€.

The new draft law considers 19 amendments. The amendment to the lawâ€™s article on professional religious activity reads: â€œThe professional religious activity covers the religious education, meeting the needs of believers, extension of the religions, realizing the religious ceremonies, reading khutbah and sermons, administrative and organizational management of the religious organizationâ€.

Religious organizations can establish their activity only in the legal addresses showed in the documents submitted for their registration and after the appointment of religious figure by the religious centers and offices.

According to the amendments, conducting the training courses for the youth and elders to learn the holy books is coordinated with the religious centers and offices according to the regulations of those religious organizations.

MPs Igbal Agazadeh, Astan Shahverdiyev expressed their opinion on the issue. The draft law on amendments was recommended to the parliament.
