Azerbaijan elaborates draft law on funerals

73 mosques were built by Kuwait, 21 â€“ by Turkey, one â€“ by Saudi Arabiaâ€, said Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations Hidayat Orujov said at a press conference held in the headquarter of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

Orujov said the committee was legalizing the activity of the mosques and they could be constructed only by authority of the committee.

He said no mosque was removed in Azerbaijan. â€œOnly illegal constrictions were removed. The illegal constructions under the name of mosques will not be allowedâ€.

Orujov spoke about the charity boxes and said this issue was controlled by the Caucasian Muslims Office. â€œThe Caucasian Muslims Office can not control all of charity boxes and we began to settle this issue. Later we will give details about that. Probably shrines will also function as religious communities and be controlled by the communitiesâ€.

Orujov mentioned the problem of cemeteries. â€œA draft law on funerals has already been elaborated. I believe there will be serious changes after the adoption of lawâ€.
