On October 5, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Azerbaijan, Etienne Berchtold, the Press Service of the President of Azerbaijan reports.
The ambassador presented his credentials to the head of state and said in Azerbaijani: “Your Excellency, Mr. President, as the new Ambassador of Austria to Baku, I am honored to present my credentials to you.”
The ambassador expressed hope that he would further improve his knowledge of the Azerbaijani language during his diplomatic tenure in the country.
The head of state expressed his satisfaction with the ambassador speaking in Azerbaijani.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that political dialogue and cooperation between the two countries in the economic, mutual investment, cultural and other spheres would continue to expand in the future. Noting that Austrian companies have been operating in Azerbaijan for many years, he emphasized the importance of increasing their number going forward.
The head of state said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, ties based on mutual respect had continued to develop.
President Ilham Aliyev wished the ambassador success in his activities.
The ambassador noted that he would work diligently to further expand bilateral relations.
During the conversation, the sides discussed the role of reciprocal visits at various levels, political consultations and interparliamentary ties in the development of bilateral relations, and emphasized the importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Austria within international organizations.
The meeting also highlighted Azerbaijan’s contribution to ensuring Europe’s energy security. In this context, the start of supplies of Azerbaijani natural gas to Austria in January of this year was noted with satisfaction.
