NTRC chairman concerned over suicide-related news on TV channels

Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. The National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) continues monitoring TV channels. Chairman of the council Nushiravan Maharramli said some shortcomings had been found out during the monitoring, APA reports.
“We are taking measures to eliminate the shortcomings. These measures are recommendations. According to the current legislation, the council has no right to interfere with the program policy, creative activity, personnel-related issues of TV channels. Channels are private bodies, they function in line with their regulations. We only control the requirements set on them by the legislation,†he said.
Maharramli said if ATV International TV channel has personnel-related problems, the state will offer the necessary support.
Maharramli also took a stance on suicide-related news broadcasted on the TV channels.
“It should be prevented. The owners of the channels should be careful, should not exaggerate such cases. But the council has no right to interfere with it,†he said.
