Renowned Kazakh poet and public figure Olzhas Suleimenov has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, KazTag reported, citing the press service of the Baytag Green Party, APA reports.
It was noted that the initiative was put forward because Suleimenov, the founder of the “Nevada–Semey” anti-nuclear movement, has worked selflessly for achieving peace not only in Kazakhstan but across the world.
“Olzhas Suleimenov’s historic role, particularly his activities within the Nevada–Semey movement, was a decisive factor in the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. In addition, thanks to his initiative and Kazakhstan’s active work on the international stage, four major nuclear test sites—including one in the U.S. state of Nevada—were also shut down. This is a major contribution to global security,” the statement emphasized.
