Baku – APA-Economics. Mazda Motor Corp. is recalling 2.3 million cars world-wide because of rear door and engine problems, Japan’s transport ministry said Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The recalls include the Mazda 3 car as well as the popular CX-3 and CX-5 crossover SUVs, according to a Mazda press release.
Of the recalls, 117,030 are related to issues with the chips controlling the diesel engines on models sold in Japan and manufactured between 2014 and 2016, which could in rare cases cause the engine to cease running. The company said no accidents were caused by the defect.
The rest of the recalls are related to problems with the paint job on the hydraulic arm that holds up the rear door, which could allow it to rust and fail. The problem affects vehicles built between 2007 and 2015.
The recall covers around 400,000 vehicles sold in Japan and 1.8 million vehicles exported abroad. Mazda exported around 770,000 vehicles last year.
The recall includes 38,381 Lafesta minivans, which Mazda manufactured for Nissan Motor Co.
Mazda recorded a $365.6 million loss in the quarter ended March 31 for costs related to recalling vehicles equipped with air-bag inflaters made by Takata Corp. In December, Mazda recalled 1.3 million vehicles in the U.S. because of excessive grease in the ignition switch that could cause the switch to overheat, and perhaps catch fire.
