APA-Economics reports that the committee’s meeting held at the building of Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration was dedicated to the discussion of the draft law on “Sea ports”. Prior to the discussions, the parliamentarians familiarized themselves with the activity of the Administration.
Head of the Administration Gudrat Gurbanov said Azerbaijan has been a member of the International Maritime Organization since 1995. He said Azerbaijan is properly abiding by the Maritime Convention.
“I hope this draft law will be adopted by the parliament,” he said.
Chairman of the committee on economic policy Ziyad Samadzadeh said alternative transport routes are need for the economic security of the country.
“Sea routes are one of them. We should try to increase the volume of cargo and review the tariffs. We should ensure the optimality of shipments. Therefore, much has to be done to improve this structure,” he said.
The parliamentarian said the sea port is itself a large structure.
“All have positive opinion of this draft law. Our visit aims at familiarizing with the activities. The Caspian Sea is our national wealth and we should use this wealth efficiently. When Azerbaijan’s northern route was closed, our country suffered much. But it will not happen again. Because Azerbaijan has a large transport infrastructure,” he said.
The draft law on “Sea ports” was recommended for the next plenary meetings of the parliament. The members of the committee said they would unanimously vote for the draft law.
The draft law consisting of 7 chapters and 29 articles will regulate the relations within commercial shipping at sea ports, construction, opening and closure of sea ports, their activity and rules.
