Train services between Baku Metro’s 28 May and Nizami stations suspended from today - VIDEO

As part of the line separation project implemented by Baku Metro CJSC, train services between the 28 May and Nizami stations have been temporarily suspended starting today, APA-Economics reports.

Baku Metro CJSC, one of the companies of AZCON Holding, has launched the main construction phase of the project to separate the Red and Green lines. The construction work is expected to last approximately 10-11 months.

The project is being implemented in accordance with the “State Program for the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025–2030,” approved by an Order of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

The main objective of the project, which is a strategic necessity for the future development of the Baku Metro, is to eliminate the interdependence between the Red and Green lines, reduce congestion at stations, minimize intervals between trains, and ensure the stability of train services.

Currently, thousands of passengers traveling in different directions share the same platform area at the 28 May station. This leads to excessive congestion, particularly during peak hours, and causes serious difficulties for passengers boarding and alighting from trains.

After the project is completed, passengers traveling in the direction of “Icherisheher” will use the platform of the “28 May” station, while those traveling in the direction of “Darnagul” will use the platform of the “Jafar Jabbarli” station. At the same time, the second passenger staircase connecting the “28 May” and “Jafar Jabbarli” stations, construction of which is nearing completion, will allow for more convenient and faster transfers between the stations.

In order to handle the additional passenger load that may arise due to the suspension of metro services, supporting measures have also been taken by AYNA.

Thus, six new express bus routes launched by AYNA a day earlier, on August 14.

The M1 route connects the “Elmlar Akademiyasi” and “28 May” metro stations, M2 connects the “Inshaatchilar”, “Nizami” and “28 May” stations, M3 connects the “20 January”, “Nizami” and “28 May” stations, M4 connects the “20 January” and “Koroglu” stations, M5 connects the “20 January” and “Ganjlik” stations, while M6 connects the “Elmlar Akademiyasi” and “Ganjlik” stations.

At the same time, the number of buses has been increased on 20 regular routes, namely routes No. 2, 6, 7A, 9, 10, 14, 17, 18, 26, 61, 65, 79, 85, 88, 88A, 93, 133, 165, 199 and 202.

In addition, starting today, the terminal stops of regular routes No. 32, 49, 120E and 125, which enter the “28 May” Transport Interchange Center, have been relocated to the area around Samad Vurgun Garden. Thus, the terminal stops of routes No. 32 and 49 have been designated on Dilara Aliyeva Street, while those of routes No. 120E and 125 have been designated on Pushkin Street.
