Baku. Aynur Aliyeva – APA-Economics. The BestComp Group, Bestel and Bakinity companies have signed the Declaration on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights".
According to the Declaration, the companies are committed to deliver only licensed software to customers and clients.
Reproduction, distribution and use of unlicensed software is acknowledged unlawful and violating the intellectual property rights of right-holder companies.
"Given the fact that computer piracy makes the economy more vulnerable, hamper economic growth and job creation, the reduction of piracy and the use of the licensed software is not only a good option for users, but also an important factor in the growth of the national economy. In general, the prevention of the spread of piracy is one of the priorities of the Microsoft’s strategy,” Microsoft Azerbaijan’s general manager Rufat Hajialibeyov said.
"The measures aimed at observation of the copyright for intellectual property will contribute to the development of the local market of computer equipment and software, as well as will have a beneficial effect on the development of the economy as a whole," Bakinity’s general director Eldar Gambarov emphasized.
Lately, the IT companies operating in Azerbaijan have begun to realize the harm that country is caused by computer pirates, and already now these companies are trying to remedy this situation, openly demonstrating their desire to develop local civilized high-tech market, by giving up from the dissemination and use of counterfeit products. This step will help develop the information technology market, and generally increase the level of the economy. It is expected that the signing of this Declaration by BestComp Group, Bestel and Bakinity will serve as an example for other companies that respect the copyright and will play an important role in addressing the problem of piracy.
According to IDC and BSA research, the level of software piracy in Azerbaijan is alarmingly high and makes up 87%. A recent joint study conducted by BSA and INSEAD, one of the leading business schools in the world, shows that the growth of the licensed software market will have a greater impact on the economy of Azerbaijan, as compared to the increase in the market of pirated software.
