Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC (ADY), one of the AZCON Holding companies, met with a delegation led by Charles Cormier, Infrastructure Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia of the World Bank (WB), ADY told APA-Economics.

During the meeting, the current state of cooperation between ADY and the World Bank and the importance of expanding relations were discussed. An exchange of views was also held on the World Bank’s participation in the works of the 2nd phase of the Baku International Sea Trade Port, technical support for the ongoing works, and the possibilities of allocating investments.

The ADY Chairman noted that container transportation along the Middle Corridor has increased recently, and positive dynamics in cargo transportation in the China–Azerbaijan direction were recorded in 2025. Last year, 392 block trains were received, which is 37% more compared to the 2024 figure. The work carried out by ADY contributed to achieving these results, including the involvement of China Railway Container Transport Corp. Ltd. (CRCT) in the joint venture “Middle Corridor Multimodal Ltd,” established by the railway organizations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia to develop the Middle Corridor.

It was also stated that the integration of the Baku International Sea Trade Port into ADY played an important role last year in increasing the efficiency of international transportation. In 2025, a record volume of more than 107,000 TEU of container cargo was handled at the Port of Baku, which means a 40% increase compared to 2024.

World Bank Regional Director Charles Cormier emphasized the WB’s interest in deepening cooperation with ADY and noted that the work carried out by ADY on the development of the Middle Corridor opens up new opportunities for future partnership.
