The number of people who participated in early voting ahead of the US congressional midterm elections has reached a record 58.7 million, Al Jazeera reports.
This was revealed in an analysis by the University of Florida's Election Lab.
According to the data, 58.7 million of approximately 210 million registered voters cast their ballots before Election Day. Of these, 31.9 million voted in person at polling stations, while 26.8 million voted by mail.
This figure significantly exceeds the 46 million people who participated in early voting during the 2022 midterm elections.
In states where data on party affiliation is collected, 12.5 million early voters are registered Democrats, while approximately 9 million are registered Republicans.
