A delegation led by Shahin Babayev, Executive Director of AZCON Holding, met with a delegation headed by Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Management Board of Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, during a visit to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) told APA-Economics.
According to AZCON Holding, two documents aimed at developing transport and logistics cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan were signed during the meeting.
The first document is a cooperation agreement between Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding (AZCON) and Kazakhstan's Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund, defining the main areas of strategic cooperation on the establishment of the new "Caspian Bridge" ("Super Ferry") next-generation Trans-Caspian ferry system.
The project envisages organizing regular cargo transportation between the ports of Alat and Kuryk using modern, high-capacity ferries, developing specialized terminals, and establishing an integrated transport and logistics system. The main objectives are to reduce the time spent on sea crossings and port operations, increase transportation reliability, and strengthen the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor. Thus, the project will contribute to strengthening transport connections in the Caspian basin and creating more sustainable logistics opportunities for international cargo flows.
A heads of terms document defining the principles of cooperation on the establishment of an intermodal cargo terminal at the Baku International Sea Trade Port was signed between Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, a company under AZCON Holding, and Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC.
The establishment of the new terminal will serve to attract container and other cargo flows, strengthen integration between port and railway operations, and increase transportation efficiency along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor).
The project envisages establishing a joint venture to carry out the terminal's operational and commercial activities. For this purpose, the investment model and financing terms are planned to be clarified at the next stage based on the project's technical and economic indicators.
At the same time, the meeting included an exchange of experience in corporate governance and coordination among portfolio companies, while opportunities for cooperation on the Middle Corridor, dredging operations, and maritime infrastructure projects were discussed.
